Base 31 Child Care Centre is OPENING SOON!
Frequently Asked Questions
Why is The HUB opening at Base31?
The HUB has spent more than a year evaluating potential sites across Prince Edward County. Base31 offers a safe, purpose-built home where we can welcome more local families. The Base31 leadership team has been a thoughtful partner and shares our commitment to supporting families in The County. As with our other locations, The HUB will continue to operate independently within this shared space.
When will it open?
We expect to open by Early 2026, depending on construction and final licensing steps. Updates will be shared as available.
How many spaces will be available?
There will be 49 spaces with 25 spaces for toddlers and 24 spaces for preschoolers. These spaces are licensed and part of the government Canada Wide Early Learning and Child Care (CWELCC) program, which offers families access to more affordable, high-quality, and inclusive early learning and child care.
How and when will I know if my child(ren) will get a spot?
Families already on The HUB’s centralized waitlist do not need to reapply for this location. As soon as the new spaces are ready, we’ll contact families in order of the list and by age group to offer spots.
What’s been done about environmental safety issues flagged at Base31 in summer 2024?
Before The HUB agreed to move forward, full environmental testing and remediation were completed. The space has been cleared to meet all child care safety and health standards. Summary information and clearance letters are available from The HUB office for anyone who would like to review them.
Are there plans to open more spaces?
The addition of these 49 spaces brings Prince Edward County to the maximum allotted spaces under the CWELCC program. To add further spaces, our allotment from the government would need to increase, or spaces could be offered outside of the CWELCC program and either subsidized through other channels or provided at higher (non-subsidized) rates. The HUB’s leadership will continue to work with Ministry partners to explore future opportunities, though there are no immediate plans to expand further at this time.
Who can I contact with questions?
Questions can be directed to the Executive Director, Stacey Stanford (StaceyS@thehubcentre.ca), or to the Board (board@thehubcentre.ca).
